Christmas is Fast Approaching!
It’s that time of year when the temperatures drop, the lights start twinkling, and the holidays feel just around the corner. There’s something magical and cozy about these final months of the year — the scent of greenery, the glow of candles, and the chance to make our homes feel extra inviting.
I always look forward to decorating for Christmas, and this season, I’m sharing a layered holiday look that blends vintage charm with cozy holiday warmth. Whether you love brass accents, greenery, or a mix of old and new pieces, this simple styling idea will help you bring that collected Christmas feel into your own home.
Statement Pieces to Draw the Eye
Mixing in unexpected items like these bright red marquee numbers adds a playful touch to your holiday styling. Since they are bright red, it draws the eye instantly to the middle of the shelf. You can also use old hymnal sheets, greeting cards or a vintage photo stuck in a metal flower frog. These eye-catching pieces draw the eye and contrast beautifully with classic elements like brass frames, layered artwork, and fresh greenery.
Here are a few Amazon finds that can help you recreate this look:
Layering a Mix of Textures
Layering instantly adds depth and visual interest to your styling. Here, I wrapped a small, thrifted pair of red mittens around the metal tree to give it extra texture and a touch of whimsy. Little details like this bring warmth and personality to your Christmas displays and make even simple vignettes feel collected and intentional. You can also use ribbons, garlands, even a classic popcorn garland would be adorable, or small bells tied with twine for that handmade, rustic look.
I’ve actually had these cute little mittens for a couple of years, but never had a good way to display them, so they usually stayed tucked away. This year I decided to think outside the “normal” box. If you love something, find a creative way to incorporate it into your décor. Those meaningful little pieces are what make your home feel personal and charming.
Bring on the Vintage
This charming vignette caught my eye with its perfectly layered vintage details, so I had to buy it! The brass accents, aged bingo card, and sepia-toned photos tell such a nostalgic story. I love how these collected pieces bring warmth and character to Christmas styling. A curated vintage look doesn’t have to be complicated. Even a small arrangement like this can instantly elevate a space and make it feel cozy and meaningful. You can easily create a similar look for a fraction of the price this piece cost! Gathering a few old photos and displaying them in a vintage-style card holder or metal stand. It’s such a simple way to add that “collected over time” charm to your holiday styling.
If you’d like something similar for your space, I was able to locate a tree card holder & vintage postcards, both on Amazon! I especially love the vintage postcards since they have a Vivian Leigh one, she’s one of my favorite golden age actresses.
The twins pictured here are actually my great uncles on my dad’s side! I had the original photo tucked away for years until I finally found the perfect convex frame at an antique store.
All of my photos are not personal heirlooms though. Those can be scarce and hard to get ahold of sometimes. I’m basically running an orphanage for vintage relatives of others. I’ll happily rehome your deceased relatives with no second thoughts. Framed, labeled, and emotionally supported. Aunt Margie won’t know she’s adopted until she’s already hanging above my mantle. If you see any vintage prints, grab them! The people in the photo’s won’t mind, trust me. Also, I like to think of it as we are preserving the memories of those gone before us.
I’ve had great luck at thrift stores and antique stores when looking for vintage photos. The convex glass frames are especially coveted, so if you are able to find one at a good deal, you definitely should grab it!
Nothing Has to Match Perfectly
That’s one of my favorite things about this kind of decorating; it doesn’t have to be perfect to feel beautiful. A mix of colors, textures, and finishes adds charm and tells a story that feels lived-in and collected over time. Every piece on this shelf has its own little history, from thrifted finds to family photos, and together they create a cozy, layered look that feels effortless. So don’t be afraid to mix metals, shapes, or styles, that’s what gives your home its personality and warmth. So glad you stopped by and hope to share more with you guys soon!
